How to read the values
- SNR is a single-number rating for attenuation across all frequencies. H, M and L give the attenuation for high-, medium- and low-frequency noise (SNR and H/M/L explained).
- All values are laboratory values from the type-examination. For practice, DGUV Rule 112-194 in Germany applies deductions: 9 dB for foam earplugs, 5 dB for pre-moulded earplugs, banded earplugs and earmuffs; the UK HSE recommends a 4 dB real-world deduction.
- More attenuation is not automatically better: 70 to 80 dB(A) should reach the ear (overprotection).
- The hearing protection finder shows the right value for your workplace. Typical levels are in the noise levels table.
All values come from EU type-examination certificates under Module B of Regulation (EU) 2016/425, issued by SATRA Technology Europe (identification number 2777). Data sheets, user instructions and declarations of conformity are under Data sheets.

All values in dB. Recommended: workplace levels with 70 to 80 dB(A) at the ear according to the HML check of DGUV Rule 112-194, HM = mid- to high-frequency noise (M − deduction), L = low-frequency noise (L − deduction).
Frequently asked questions
Which EarProtect hearing protector attenuates most?
The EP1227 disposable foam earplugs with SNR 37 dB. Among the earmuffs, the EP902 attenuates most with SNR 33 dB.
Can I add up the SNR values of earplugs and earmuffs?
No. Double protection is assessed as a combination; the individual values cannot be added.
Do the values apply to every wearer?
The laboratory values assume a correct fit. How well an individual ear is protected only shows in a fit check or fit test.
