Earmuffs for work
Earmuffs in red, green, black and blue · AI-generated video
Six earmuffs to EN 352-1:2020, all PPE category III: from SNR 28 dB for medium levels to SNR 33 dB for very noisy workplaces, from 151 to 260 grams. With H/M/L values for every model, so you can find the right one even for one-sided noise spectra.
Earmuffs are quick to put on and take off and suit any place where hearing protection is often interrupted. Which earmuffs match your level is shown in the “Recommended at” column or by the hearing protection finder.

Which earmuffs suit your noise level?
Set the level or choose a noise source: the calculator shows for each product what reaches the ear. The hearing protection finder compares earplugs and earmuffs together.
Level at the ear = noise level − (M value − real-world deduction). Target under the hearing protection: 70 to 80 dB(A).
A calculated guide that does not replace a risk assessment. Whether hearing protection is suitable also depends on wearing time, warning signals, glasses or helmet and a wearing trial. The finder does not check peak sound pressure levels (dB(C), e.g. from impacts or nailers); they must also be considered in the selection.
From 85 dB(A), hearing protection must be worn and the area is marked as a noise area.

“Recommended at”: workplace levels of mid- to high-frequency noise at which 70 to 80 dB(A) reach the ear according to the HML check of DGUV Rule 112-194 (M value minus real-world deduction).
SNR alone is not enough: look at H and L
For high-frequency noise such as grinding or compressed air, the H value counts; for low-frequency noise from compressors and engines, the L value. The EP903 has the highest H value at H 36 dB, the EP902 the highest L value at L 23 dB.
Earmuffs for people who wear glasses
Spectacle arms under the sealing cushions can let sound through. DGUV Rule 112-194 therefore recommends earplugs for people who wear glasses; anyone who wears earmuffs needs wide, soft cushions and spectacle arms that are as flat as possible. More in the guide Hearing protection with glasses.
Weight and wearing time
Anyone who wears hearing protection for the whole shift notices every gram. The lightest is the EP905 at 151 g, the strongest the EP902 at 260 g.
Suitable rather than maximum
More attenuation is not automatically better. Below 70 dB(A) at the ear there is a risk of overprotection. That is why there are earmuffs with SNR 28 and 29 dB for medium levels.

Frequently asked questions
Which earmuffs attenuate most?
The EP902 with SNR 33 dB, H 34, M 31 and L 23 dB.
Which earmuffs are the lightest?
The EP905 at 151 grams.
Are earmuffs suitable for people who wear glasses?
With limitations. Spectacle arms can disturb the seal of the cushions; DGUV Rule 112-194 therefore recommends earplugs. Anyone who wears earmuffs should look for wide, soft cushions and spectacle arms that are as flat as possible. More in Hearing protection with glasses.
How do you clean earmuffs?
After use, clean the cushions and foam pads with mild soap and water or alcohol wipes and leave them to air-dry.
