Disposable foam earplugs, SNR 37 dB
The conical PU foam earplugs of the EP1227 series are the strongest earplugs in the EarProtect range. Rolled down, they fit almost any ear canal, where the foam slowly expands and seals. Six colour combinations, identical test values.

For very noisy workplaces
For selection, DGUV Rule 112-194 works with the M value and deducts 9 dB for formable earplugs to reflect real-world use: M 35 minus 9 gives a calculated 26 dB, so the recommended range for mid- to high-frequency noise is about 96 to 106 dB(A). That makes these earplugs suitable for levels where lighter options are no longer enough: grinding and straightening in metalworking, demolition work, the circular saw on site.
At lower levels they attenuate more than necessary. If the level at the ear drops below 70 dB(A), there is a risk of overprotection: warning signals and shouts get lost. Check your level in the hearing protection finder.
Six colours, one test
Blue/white/green, green, green/yellow, yellow/orange, orange/white/yellow and orange/purple/white: all variants have the same attenuation values (SNR 37, H 37, M 35, L 30) and the same declaration of conformity. Highly visible colours make it easier to check whether hearing protection is being worn in the noise area, and help to tell areas or shifts apart.
Disposable means once
According to the user instructions, the earplugs are not reusable. Store them cool, dry and protected from frost and light; unopened, they keep for three years from manufacture. For handing them out on site, there is the EP500SGY wall dispenser.
Correct use in four steps
- 01
Roll
With clean fingers, roll the earplug into a thin, tight cylinder.
- 02
Pull the ear
With the other hand, gently pull the ear up and back to straighten the ear canal.
- 03
Insert
Push the earplug quickly and deeply into the ear canal.
- 04
Hold
Hold it in place with a finger for 30 to 60 seconds until the foam has expanded. Remove slowly with a twisting motion.

“Recommended at”: workplace levels of mid- to high-frequency noise at which 70 to 80 dB(A) reach the ear according to the HML check of DGUV Rule 112-194 (M value minus real-world deduction).
Frequently asked questions
How often should foam earplugs be replaced?
The EP1227 disposable earplugs are not reusable. After removal they are thrown away and replaced by a fresh pair the next time.
What does SNR 37 dB mean?
The SNR value sums up the sound attenuation measured in the laboratory in a single number. H, M and L are more precise for selection: DGUV Rule 112-194 calculates with the M value (35 dB) minus a 9 dB real-world deduction, which leaves a calculated 26 dB. More in SNR and H/M/L explained.
Do all colours attenuate the same?
Yes. All six colour variants of the EP1227 series have the same test values: SNR 37 dB, H 37, M 35 and L 30 dB.
What is the pack size per carton?
2,000 pairs per carton, split into dispenser boxes of 200 pairs each.
