Do not use if there is a risk of the cord getting caught during use, for example on running machines with exposed moving parts. Do not pull the earplugs out by the cord.

EP001COB at a glance
The EP001COB is a pre-moulded flanged silicone earplug with cord. It belongs to the EP001 series, is not rolled but inserted directly, and is ready for use again after cleaning.
- Item number: EP001COB
- Colour: orange
- Material: silicone, with cord
- Attenuation values: SNR 32 dB; H 32, M 29, L 28 dB
- Standard: EN 352-2:2020, PPE category III
- Packaging: 1,000 pairs, 100 per dispenser box
- Use: reusable, clean after every use (up to five uses according to the user instructions)
With cord: within reach in breaks
The EP001COB is the corded version, in orange. In breaks the earplugs hang around the neck instead of ending up in a pocket. That pays off where hearing protection is often taken out during the shift, for example when moving between the hall and the office or on inspection rounds.
Important: the corded version must not be used where the cord can get caught, and the earplugs are never pulled out by the cord. The warning above reflects the user instructions. Where a cord is a risk, take the EP001Y without cord.
The EP001COB is packed as 1,000 pairs, 100 per dispenser box.
What reaches the ear
For selection, DGUV Rule 112-194 works with the M value and deducts a real-world deduction: M 29 dB minus 5 dB gives 24 dB. For mid- to high-frequency noise, the EP001COB then lets through at the ear:
- Noise level 90 dB(A): 66 dB(A) at the ear (Check for overprotection)
- Noise level 95 dB(A): 71 dB(A) at the ear (Recommended)
- Noise level 100 dB(A): 76 dB(A) at the ear (Recommended)
- Noise level 105 dB(A): 81 dB(A) at the ear (Not recommended)
- Noise level 110 dB(A): 86 dB(A) at the ear (Not permitted)
At the ear, 70 to 80 dB(A) is recommended. The EP001COB is therefore in the recommended range for workplace levels of about 94 to 104 dB(A). Below that it attenuates more than necessary and there is a risk of overprotection; above it, the attenuation is no longer enough. For predominantly low-frequency noise the L value applies (28 dB minus 5 dB equals 23 dB): the recommended range is then about 93 to 103 dB(A). Your own levels are calculated by the hearing protection finder; the calculation is shown in Calculating the residual level at the ear.
Cleaning and storage
Clean after every use with a mild cleaning agent, let dry completely and keep in the storage box. Do not wring, do not use chemical cleaners. According to the user instructions, the earplugs can be used up to five times; damaged earplugs must be replaced immediately. More in Care, storage and checks.
Certification and evidence
The EP001COB is category III PPE under Regulation (EU) 2016/425; the notified body for the EarProtect products is SATRA Technology Europe (identification number 2777). Declaration of conformity, user instructions and data sheet are available above under downloads. What an EU type-examination certificate contains is explained in Reading an EU type-examination certificate.
Whether SATRA Technology Europe is notified for hearing protection can be checked in the European Commission’s NANDO database: the body is listed there under identification number 2777 for “Equipment providing hearing protection” and “Protective Equipment against harmful noise”, with EU type-examination (annex V) and the procedures of annexes VII and VIII of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (checked on 18 October 2026). How a CE marking with an identification number is read is explained by the Commission’s Blue Guide in section 4.5.1.5; more in CE marking and PPE category III.
All documents for the EarProtect products are collected under data sheets. If a document shows a different address from the legal notice, the guide New company address: is the certificate still valid? helps.
Other versions
The other version of the EP001 series: EP001Y (yellow). The overview is on the page EP001. With H 33 dB the TPE earplug EP002B attenuates high frequencies slightly more. The materials are compared in Foam, silicone or TPE.
Correct use in four steps
- 01
Wash your hands
Clean your hands before inserting; the earplug goes straight into the ear canal.
- 02
Pull the ear
Gently pull the ear upwards with one hand.
- 03
Insert
Guide the tip into the ear canal until the flanges sit tightly and comfortably.
- 04
Remove
Twist out slowly, never with a jerk. On corded models, do not pull on the cord.

“Recommended at”: workplace levels of mid- to high-frequency noise at which 70 to 80 dB(A) reach the ear according to the HML check of DGUV Rule 112-194 (M value minus real-world deduction).
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between EP001COB and EP001Y?
The EP001COB is with cord, orange and comes as 1,000 pairs, 100 per dispenser box. The EP001Y is without cord, yellow and comes as 2,000 pairs, 200 per dispenser box. Attenuation and standard are the same: SNR 32 dB, H 32, M 29, L 28 dB.
How do you clean the EP001COB?
After every use, clean with a mild cleaning agent and keep in the storage box; let dry completely, no chemical cleaners.
How often can the EP001COB be used?
According to the user instructions up to five times, provided the earplugs are cleaned after each use and are undamaged.
How do you remove the corded EP001COB correctly?
Slowly twist out each earplug individually. Do not pull on the cord, and do not use this version if the cord can get caught.
Silicone, TPE or foam?
Foam earplugs attenuate most and are for single use. Silicone and TPE earplugs are pre-moulded and reusable; TPE attenuates high frequencies 1 dB more. The comparison is in Foam, silicone or TPE.
For which noise levels is the EP001COB suitable?
According to the HML check of DGUV Rule 112-194, for mid- to high-frequency noise of about 94 to 104 dB(A), for low-frequency noise of about 93 to 103 dB(A). Your own values are calculated by the hearing protection finder.
How many pairs does the pack of the EP001COB hold?
1,000 pairs, 100 per dispenser box.
Where do I find the data sheet and certificate for the EP001COB?
The data sheet, user instructions and declaration of conformity are on this page under downloads, all documents under data sheets. For the certificate see Reading an EU type-examination certificate.
